Bricks ‘n Sticks – #08 – George of the Jungle

A primitive jungle friend pays a visit to Ben and Maqt’s technological headquarters (aka hole). They also bring a pipeline to the pumpkin farm to retrieve Pumpfrey’s harvest.

This is the first episode recorded with my new Blue Yeti microphone. I trust everyone can tell the difference from the previous episode!

Bricks ‘n Sticks – #07 – ComputerCraft Robotic Pumpkin Farm

I’ve been excited to upload this episode, as it’s the first one that shows off one of my favorite parts of Tekkit, the ComputerCraft mod.

I get the basics of the code written for Pumpfrey to handle our pumpkin farming automatically. Also I talk briefly about some equipment I’m in the process of upgrading to make better quality videos.

Bricks ‘n Sticks – #05 – Meet Pumpfrey

My Auto-Harvesting Minecraft Greenhouse

All my work has finally paid off! The auto-farm is completed, and it works flawlessly! Too bad the same can’t be said for my laptop. I expected some lag to crop up but things were a bit ridiculous for a while.

Also my apologies for the audio balancing, I messed up the volume settings. But it only impacts a short part of the video so I’ll take it as a lesson for next time.

Hope you enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed making it! I definitely will be doing more in the future.

Updated Texture Pack, Other Minecraft Tidbits

Now that Minecraft update 1.7 is is out and we have pistons, I needed to get my Painterly pack customization updated. They had the texture files early this time, so all the updated items were added to their customization page by this afternoon. The link to the updated pack can be found, as always, on the My Minecraft Server page. Painterly has also started providing a “password” along with every customized pack, so that anyone can paste the password into the customizer  and get the same options directly from them. It helps for those wary of downloading files from just anyone.

As far as the update goes, we’ve already moved to version 1.7.1 (I’m ignoring the 1.7_01 naming Notch accidentally used) due to a few crash bugs, and Notch has already promised another patch up to 1.7.2 tomorrow to fix what he termed “a few weird corner cases with pistons”.

I doubt there should be many other issues that will require a patch before the mighty 1.8 Adventure Update, so time for everyone to dig in to pistons and get some awesome stuff created! As for myself, the auto-harvesting farm is basically ready, I just need some time to do the recording. Not long now, not long at all and everyone shall be able to see!

Minecraft Beta 1.7: The Pistons are Coming!

Just saw another tidbit about the upcoming Minecraft 1.7 patch!  Jens (@jeb_) posted a video demoing how the pistons work on his twitter feed.  Video below:

A few things are different than the piston mod that the idea came from, but the biggest difference seems to be that they wont launch things into the air. I’m good with that, as it’s a fairly niche use anyway.  I’m just excited that I’ll be finally finishing up my auto-farm!  I have to do a video on the farm once it is complete, and I’ve got to start saving up redstone for all the wiring that will be required.

I’m completely excited about this update, as I have been with the last several patches. And all this before anyone even knows what’s coming in the Adventure portion of it!  Looking forward to it all, but I hope we get a release date soonish.

Until later, Happy Crafting!

A Minecraft Auto-Farm

Well this weekend’s project ended up being a redesign of the farm. Beats another 4 days in a cave anyway. ;-)

If you’d been watching the world maps I post you’ve probably noticed my fenced-off and creeper-pocked wheat farm near the airstrip. It’s quite large, and never been fully planted due to the size and me getting bored of tilling and planting. Recently I saw a video of an auto-harvesting wheat farm that looked pretty awesome, and I’d rather have that. The one thing that has always turned me off from the auto-farms has been the lack of seeds from the wheat. Of course this tweet changed everthing, and so planning and construction began.
